7 September Mirny The history of geocryology (permafrost science and permafrost engineering) spans about 85 years. Over this period geocryology has advanced to its present state owing to a large degree to the coordinated efforts of scientists and engineers from Russia, USA, China, Canada and other countries with extensive areas of permafrost.   Abstract. The permafrost base is defined as 0 °C isotherm, and thickness is defined as the depth from the surface to that isotherm. Permanent ice is found on or beneath approximately 20 % of dry land: 75 % of Alaska, 63 % of Canada, and 47 % of the Russian Federation are covered by permafrost.

Permafrost and glaciers are the most important components of the cryosphere. Their mutual relationship has only recently become the subject of interdisciplinary research. The fact that most of the permafrost and glacial studies have been carried out separately is an obstacle to their conduct. Branch of Geophysical Applications and Support, in Proceedings of the Symposium on the Application of geophysics to engineering and environmental problems (SAGEEP), edited by M.H. Powers, A.B. Ibrahim, and L. Cramer, Environmental and Engineering .

Proceedings of the Seminar III on Dry Valley Drilling Project, by Seminar on Dry Valley Drilling Project (Book) 8 editions published in in English and . Symposium themes include: Permafrost as foundation, enclosing and construction material. Physical, thermal and mechanical properties of permafrost and their changes due to external loads. Control of engineering properties of permafrost soils during construction and service life of projects.
